Caleb Dillon is an award-winning independent filmmaker developing projects in North Carolina.
Hailing from a long tradition of storytellers, Caleb grew up in rural Appalachia, listening to his kin spin yarns from porch swings and rocking chairs; a skill he now puts to good use.
Caleb writes historical, high-concept genre, and family drama through the lens of broken families; he’s just as happy writing sword-and-sandal epics as indie darlings.
Caleb is currently in post-production on his next short film, Good Behavior. The script was a Finalist in the HollyShorts Screenwriting Competition. This ambitious short utilized a mixture of student filmmakers, professional crew, and nationwide talent to achieve his vision.
In 2014, Caleb directed an independent horror feature, In the Pines, produced on a shoestring budget of only fifty thousand dollars. When the production company closed, Caleb kept close contact with the film’s producer, acquiring the rights to complete the film on his own.
Through his blog, Modern Screenwriting, Caleb disseminates his screenwriting knowledge.
In 2025, three of his horror short stories will be published in a ‘Spooky Anthology’.
Caleb taught producing to students at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts while pursuing his Masters in Screenwriting. He is currently seeking teaching opportunities.
Caleb’s short film, Snickety Snack was selected by nine festivals.
When not writing or on set, Caleb enjoys tabletop roleplaying, video games, and camping.
